The payment company Unzer has moved into a new office in the heart of Berlin and will relocate its headquarters to the German capital. By doing so, Unzer is opening a new chapter in its young history.
Robert Bueninck, CEO of Unzer, explains: “Unzer is still often perceived as the former Heidelpay. But that lies in the past. Unzer group consists of thirteen entities and a broad product portfolio under one brand, which uniquely positions us in the market. With the relocation of our headquarters to Germany’s capital we underline our ambition to grow and internationalize our offering.”
In recent years and through several acquisitions, Unzer has developed from a German payment processor into a European fintech with further offices in Denmark, Luxembourg, and Austria. More than 750 employees from 36 nations work together toward one goal: to provide companies of all sizes with integrated payment solutions so that they can merge their digital and point-of-sale channels on one platform.
“Berlin offers outstanding conditions for achieving these goals. The city is the undisputed centre of the German startup and tech scene; it is home to many companies from the fintech and e-commerce industries. In addition, the city is internationally renowned and attracts talent from all over the world”, says Robert Bueninck. “As a growing company, we rely on attracting the best talent in the industry. Therefore, we believe Berlin presents us with better opportunities to further increase our attractiveness as an employer. We are excited to be part of the Berlin ecosystem.”
The new office is located in Berlin’s Kreuzberg district, not far from Potsdamer Platz. It will be home to parts of the management team as well as a tech hub for product development and engineering experts. The company Tillhub, a provider of mobile POS systems acquired by Unzer in June, will also move into the new office building.
At the same time, Unzer will remain loyal to Heidelberg. As the headquarters of Unzer E-Com GmbH and with 100 employees on site, the location continues to be a mainstay of the company. The compliance and governance, finance, marketing, human resources, and large parts of the customer service departments are also based in Heidelberg.
Unzer offers merchants the complete value chain of payment transactions from a single source – from online checkouts to mobile POS systems to final settlement. All data is combined on a central platform – a solution also known as unified commerce. For merchants, this means that no matter whether they sell online, offline, or mobile, they have an overview of their sales and payment activities in one central system.
In the future, Unzer wants to invest even more in unified commerce and expand the payment platform. Merchants can then purchase additional services flexibly in an app store. This helps merchants to offer their customers a consistent buying experience, regardless of where and how they pay or receive their goods. Robert Bueninck explains: “We want to drive the digital transformation of society forward. After all, payment transactions are an important pillar of our society. With our broad product range and technical infrastructure, we are helping to make cashless and contactless payments as easy and smooth as possible.”
Unzer is a European payment company that enables merchants to process payments across all channels, devices and markets – whether online, mobile, or at the POS. All payment details are stored on one central platform, helping merchants secure a better understanding of their customers’ buying behaviour, detect fraud, and offer a seamless shopping experience – regardless of where, when, and how customers wish to pay.
More than 70,000 merchants from all over Europe are already using the financial services provided by Unzer. The company has over 750 employees, spread over eight offices in Germany, Austria, Denmark and Luxembourg. In 2021, Unzer group generated a revenue of EUR 176 million. Global investment firm KKR has held a majority stake in Unze since 2019.
