Sports retail meets food services: Unzer and Tillhub support the two-in-one store with an iPad POS system
In January 2021, Velopunkt reopened at a new location. The specialty store for high-end bicycles and bike accessories now includes its own café where customers can enjoy a short break with food and drinks. In both parts of the store, you can find sustainable, local products – and an integrated POS system from Tillhub and Unzer that provides a seamless shopping experience.
When Martin Duscha founded Velopunkt, he wanted it to be a meeting place for every cycling enthusiast in the local area. The result is an interesting concept combining high-end bikes with a cosy café and regular bike tours. And at the heart of it all, sustainability plays an important role.
Most of our suppliers are either local or share a similar philosophy to us. We do our bit for the environment and play a part in creating a close community of cycling enthusiasts.

Sustainability, high-quality bikes, local food and drink, and a community feeling – Velopunkt unites all these things to create a special shopping experience. Store owner Martin Duscha, himself an enthusiastic cyclist, wanted to apply this to the shop’s POS system. The challenge: Very few providers offer an integrated till system that is suitable for both retail and food services. In addition, the POS solution needed to be able to handle all payment methods.
In the café, the customers usually pay in cash or with an EC card; in the bike store, EC cards and credit cards are more popular – and some customers opt to pay by invoice.

While searching for a simple solution to optimise the shopping experience for his customers, Martin Duscha found Unzer and Tillhub. The team took on the challenge of finding a way to meet the shop’s diverse needs and found a flexible solution: the Tillhub iPad POS system.
The POS system presented an all-in-one solution that just as suitable for the bike store as well as the café. It enables purchases from both areas to be processed in one single payment.
Many payment providers focus on either retail or food services. With Unzer I had full flexibility from the start and could implement a POS system for both areas with a single provider.

With the Tillhub POS system, Velopunkt had found a solution that maximises the store’s flexibility. Customers benefit from the freedom to choose whether they pay in cash, by card, or by invoice.
The advantage of working with Unzer is that we can fulfil the needs of our customers at different touchpoints: whether they pay up front, by invoice, or with an EC card.

Martin Duscha is satisfied to have found an all-in-one solution for his all-in-one store – and he is already considering the next steps with Unzer. The possibility to pay in instalments is an attractive option, especially for high-value purchases like bikes. The shop is planning to implement this payment method together with Unzer in future.
